Then there is the long and winding uphill journey to the island’s biggest attraction, Mount Teide, with its snow-capped peak and lunar landscape. The old town of Puerto de la Cruz, centred around the small fishing port, remains remarkably unchanged. Old houses in the traditional Canarian style and the fishermen landing their catches give Puerto de la Cruz a charming atmosphere. The rocky coast with its three small black sand beaches is also the home of the newly refurbished Lago Martianez. The Loro Parque is a man-made nature paradise in Puerto de la Cruz. It houses a shark tunnel and is home to the largest collection of parrots in the world.
